We beg to acknowledge receipt of your favour of the

3rd inst.with enclosures, for which we are greatly obliged.

We are grateful for the attention which has been given to our in- terests in this matter, and for the action of the Government of Hong Kong in declining to register the piratical Mark complained of.

In reply to paragraph 3.of Major General Black's letter, we beg to state that our "Anchor" Trade Mark was registered in 1877. The Certifi- cate bears date 8th Feb.in that year, and certifies that it was so done, on our application (or rather, on the application of the then firm of Brooks, Shoobridge & Co, since merged in the above Company), and was duly advertised in No. 1.of the Trades Mark Journal, as in Class 17.

We now beg to return the enclosures herewith, and to add that we are taking immediate steps to have the Mark registered in Hong Kong, in accordance with Major General Black's suggestion.
